For some time now practitioners, other than hypnotherapists, have been able to take the record keeping part of their business into the electronic age. How easy it is to sit with a medical practitioner while he or she enters your details into the computer and comes up with your complete medical history, and how professional is the process.

Now, we have the opportunity to make a change to the way we record our client’s details due to the efforts of Bruce Richardson who has developed a software program specifically for Hypnotherapists. Through Bruce’s diligence we no longer have to fight the paper war. All client details can be entered into our computers in moments whilst, if you choose, the client sits in the trance chair.

The program Bruce developed, HypnoRecord, was shown at the last CCH meeting in an interesting and informative presentation which detailed the advantage of this simple to use but extremely effective and efficient method.

One advantage of this program is the availability of all of the client’s records at one source: issues the client presented with; telephone calls made and received; medical history and family background and much more all at the touch of your keyboard. The versatility of this software includes being able to record all manner of information such as which induction was used and when; whether the client responds best to direct suggestions; what particular emotions were released at which particular session; ideo-motor responses; the details of age regression work; which parts emerged during Ego State Therapy or parts therapy and…the list goes on. Of course we can continue to make notes in our clients’ paper files, however, six or twelve months on the writing may become illegible or blurred, or indeed faded, whereas with the computer it is there in all its clarity for as long as you wish to retain it.

Through a variety of dropdown menus, information can be entered which allows the program to produce reports which will help us understand the way our own particular business operates such as the type of clients you see, which area they come from, how they got our name, etc.. Knowing where the clients come from, Yellow Pages, word of mouth, referrals, is a vital part of running a business and with this sort of information at our fingertips, decision making as to how we spend our advertising dollar becomes much easier.

Links are provided to Microsoft Word and Excel should they be required which is invaluable when forwarding reports and feedback to other professionals if and when appropriate or required. The program will be further developed over the coming years and there is the opportunity to incorporate feedback from the end users into the program. Future updates may include a link to accounting software, MYOB, etc..

Bruce, the developer of HypnoRecord has a varied background in IT engineering, IT education, business, and is a practising hypnotherapist, which means he is acutely aware of the issues of keeping accurate records and has the ability to transcribe this knowledge into a functional and productive software package which will allow us to move forward into the electronic age.
