Page 2 of 2 Certainly double blind testing, the de-facto 'gold standard' of research is not really possible, however, qualitative research most definitely is. This could be introduced at the under graduate level and become a part of other post graduate courses - much as is currently happening at universities. For example, studies about quit smoking could be done. Once governments are shown how they can save money, they become much more interested in a profession and as smoking is one of the most preventable forms of cancer it could be an area that the hypnosis profession focuses upon as starting point for published research which clearly demonstrates what hypnotherapists have known for years i.e. the high success rate of quit smoking programmes which incorporate the use of hypnotherapy! As many will be aware, David is the webmaster of the CCH website. He believes that one of the critical factors in how the public perceive the CCH will be in the presentation of the website. David researched the best Content Management System (CMS) website system and settled on Joomla as it allows the newsletters to be presented as content and allows member to have profiles with their details that they can update themselves. Just recently David added a module that randomly displays members on the front page. The details included are the Suburb and State as well as the photo posted on the profile. As such it is only profiles that have a photo that are being displayed and David is continually encouraging members to update their profiles, explaining that "Members who have a photo on their profile are getting additional exposure from being on the front page. With over 45,000 hits in January 08, the CCH is getting a lot of visitors. I believe that some of these visits will translate into phone calls to hypnotherapists and then business for them.” David is one of the veterans in our profession when it comes to being internet-savvy and believes that an internet presence is vital these days, "Members who have been online for a while have been getting regular clientele from their web sites, generally more than from the Yellow Pages and other forms of advertising. Remember the younger people go to the Internet first. One of the wonderful things about the Internet is that it is a great leveller. You can have a small site and still get business. Unfortunately, many of our members are not taking full advantage of their profile. If you don't have a modest amount of detail on your profile you really are doing yourself a disservice." David is more than happy to help people who are new to the Internet. Now that things have settled down with the CCH site, David will be running an online workshop on how you can create your own web presence for next to zero dollars. For those interested in learning how to do this, keep an eye out for an email from the CCH with the details or, if keen to book a spot, contact David directly from the Contact the Webmaster form at the CCH website.
