Terry Suckling Terry Suckling is a Psychotherapist and Clinical Hypnotherapist (Dip. Clin. Hypnosis, Post. Grad. Psychotherapy) and has been working in the area of mind/body dynamics for thirty years. He is President of the Australian Association of Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy, foundation member of the Council of Clinical Hypnotherapists, and founder of HypnoDynamics mind strategies for enhancing peak performance.
Terry's interest in mind/body control and peak performance is the result of a varied background in industry and private practice. In the 1970's and 80's Terry proved to be a pioneer through his research, development and implementation of mind/body training programmes.
He established the Relaxation and Recreation Centre in 1978 which was the first Biofeedback Training Centre in Melbourne and later in the mid 1980's he opened a health and fitness centre that blended mind/body training strategies that enhanced peak performance for athletes. Terry founded The Hypnotherapy Centre in 1998.
Terry has a keen interest in all aspects of personal training and in training competitors and corporations of all persuasions. He is a Third Dan black belt in Zen Do Kai freestyle martial arts and enjoys training everyone from the nexperienced through to Special Forces Operatives and boxing champions such as Sam Soliman. Terry is self published in the area of meditation and mind focusing strategies. He has researched and developed a variety of practical and accessible tools to develop Emotional Intelligence and peak performance. Terry works with individuals, couples, sporting clubs and corporations, in all spects of Hypnosis including: Peak performance analysis and focus; Motivation and team building; Communication; Crisis Intervention; Psychotherapy; Goal setting and planning; Meditation and Personal Energy Balancing. Terry teaches that optimal performance is created by specific and accessible mind states that are easily learned and applied to any personal or team goal and he facilitates the identification and removal of self-limiting mind programmes that restrict peak performance with humour, calm and conviction.
Terry’s goal is to equip his clients with "HypnoDynamic" tools that create new unconscious mind programmes that assist their peak performance, happiness and creativity. According to Terry, “Many of us experience "losing our mojo", our positive mind state where we are constantly able to modify our perspective of present limiting or daunting circumstances. When someone or thing we are attached to (Health, posessions, family, friends) suffers or ceases to exist we often lose touch with the part of us that believes in miracles. Our inner cynic takes over, we experience fear, we grieve and we fail to adapt and accommodate the changes confronting us.”
With Terry’s kind permission (and that of his client), herewith a case history.
A Case History of simple suggestion:
2006 Female Patient of 32 years (A), contracted Viral Encephalitis 1994. A 20 day coma resulted in no vision, talking or movement (one very nasty mozzie).
A`s dream drive and desire brought about vast improvement but sought Hypnotherapy help to (1) improve eyesight (brain wiring not eyes). (2) Reduce panic/edginess/fear due to several major falls when endeavoring to walk unassisted with frame. (3) Mumbling when tired. (4) Independence.
Initial Hypnotherapy focussed on imaginative brain/body rewiring resulting in improved confidence and co-ordination. After 8 treatments at weekly intervals (A) successfully went out with boyfriend without walking frame. (A)`s Carers all felt that improvement was needed to reduce unconscious fear observed when leading by hand as (A)`s hand grasp was excessively tight.
Following discussion in light hypnosis with (A) I constructed an active "S" script (creatively Similar in process to M Erickson ) that required three plus two simple proceedures prior to standing or stepping (and later to Speaking Slowly ). - Smile: (A) to think and feel her smile (Increase serotonin to optimize mind/body interconectivity )
- Sigh: (A) to physically sigh whilst smiling (Activate Parasympathetic nervous system to relax and reduce fear/adrenalin )
- Stand/Step: (A) to stand and then step whilst smiling and feeling relaxation response. his process is known to patient as her three step process, SMILE, SIGH, STEP, into any activity.
- Self Respect/Appreciation: (A) to maintain poise and positive self awareness.
- Speak Slowly: (A) to speak articulately and listen to own conversation.
This process is known to patient as her multi step process for dealing with others.
Feedback after one week from all carers was wonderful: freestanding aqua aerobics, no hand grasping when walking or climbing stairs, vastly improved balance and confidence and top marks on practical assessment at counselling course (A) is studying to be a counsellor. from the CCH Newsletter, 'Perspectives' Vol 1 Issue 2 (April 2007) |
